Trapped Miners Record Video Message

受困礦工錄下影像訊息

	Trapped deep below the surface since August 5, 33 Chilean miners sent their families a video message last Thursday expressing thanks and hope for efforts to free them.
	They even displayed flashes of humor and patriotism, in spite of their precarious circumstances.
	上週四，自八月五日起便受困於地底下的三十三名智利礦工傳送了一段影像訊息給他們的家人，對於救援行動表達了感激與希望。儘管身處險境，他們仍然展現一絲幽默和愛國精神。

	"We know what you've all been doing for us," said one miner. "You haven't left us alone. We want to send applause to you."
	其中一名礦工說：「我們知道你們為我們所做的一切，你們沒有拋下我們，我們要向你們獻上掌聲。」
	The men then clapped for their would-be rescuers.

	The grainy and occasionally out of focus video lasted about 25 minutes.
	Shots were illuminated by the miner's headlamp.
	It showed the 50-square-foot space the miners have been confined to since being trapped 2,300 feet below the surface.
	All of the miners seen in the video had stripped to the waist in the 29-degree heat.
	Some men stood, while others sprawled in the ground.

	"This is for my wife Lila and for my grandchildren," said oldest miner and the group's spiritual leader, 63-year-old Mario Gomes.

	The video ends with the trapped miners singing the Chilean national anthem.

	Mine officials said the men were adopting various roles to deal with the challenges they face.
	A shift leader had taken a leadership role, while those with nursing experience are seeing to the physical and mental health of the others.

	What the miners do not know is that it may be three to four months before they are rescued.
	Rescue workers have kept secret any exact details on the length of the operation because they believe the truth would be too great of a psychological blow for some to take.
	這群礦工所不知道的是，他們可能還要三到四個月才有可能獲救。救援人員沒有詳盡告知救援工作所需的時間，因為他們認為有些礦工可能無法承受真相帶來的心理衝擊。
	"We don't have the correct psychological diagnosis about how the situation is down there," said Chilean President Sebastian Pinera.

	A preliminary psychological survey showed that three or four miners are already beginning to show signs of depression and anxiety.

in spite of 為介系詞，後面要接名詞或動名詞，不過如果後面要接 that 子句，必須先加上名詞 the fact，再接 that 子句。

In spite of the fact that Jenny had never played poker before, she came out ahead in last night's game.
