deal with 處理；應付

deal with 原是「處理」問題；「應付」某事的意思，頭條中加的引號是用來強調，加強語氣。

I need some time to deal with this problem.
我需要一些時間來處理這個問題。

boot out 趕出

boot 做名詞時，有「靴子」之意，當動詞時，則常和介系詞 out 連用，表「趕走；逐出」之意。

I'm going to boot him out of my house.
我要把他趕出我家。

pep talk 激勵人心的演說

pep 在口語中有「活力；精力充沛」的意思。Pep 與 talk 合用表可以激勵人心、士氣的演說。常與動詞 give 合用。

The football coach gave his team a pep talk before the game.
該名美式足球教練在開賽前給隊員來一場激勵士氣的演說。

get the green light 獲得許可

green light 除了表交通號誌中的「綠燈」外，以此意象引申而出有「許可；准許」之意。所以 get the green light 就有「獲得許可；獲得授權」之意。

The accounting department gave us the green light to buy new computers.
會計部門准許我們添購一部新電腦。

bash 痛擊；猛批

在頭條英語中，bash 也是另一個常用來表「大力抨擊；痛批」某事物的單字，另外，也有字面上的「攻擊；痛打」之意。

I'm tired of you bashing all my ideas before you even try them.
你試都不試就大力抨擊我的想法，讓我覺得很厭倦。

tamper with (something) 竄改

tamper 當動詞時，表「用不正當手段干預；胡亂擺弄」，常與介系詞 with 連用，表「竄改」之意。

It is illegal to tamper with evidence for a trial.
竄改審判的證據是非法的。

crank out 快速（做成、說出……）

crank out 是美式口語用法，「快速達成、做成、說出……」，crank 當動詞時，有「使加快」的意思。

Joe is a really productive worker. He has cranked out eight business reports in two weeks!
喬伊真的是一位很有生產力的員工，他在兩週內就迅速做出八份商業報告。

head to 往

head to 逕直朝某方向去。在文中則有若要獲得相關資訊，可「直接前往」該網站之意。

After work, do you want to head to a pub to get some beer?
下班後要不要去 pub 喝些啤酒？

debt-to-equity ratio 資本負債率；負債與股東權益比率

debt 表「債；借款」，而 equity 則為「抵押資產的淨值」，至於 ratio 則表「比；比率」之意。字面上來看，此語意思是「債務對資產淨值的比率」，一般常見的翻譯有「資本負債率；負債與股東權益比率」。

The debt-to-equity ratio of the company is higher than average for the industry.
這家公司的資本負債率高出此產業的平均值。

John and Alice are going over a company's income statement and balance sheet.
約翰與愛麗斯正在看公司的營收報告和資產負債表。

John:	This company has some serious problems.	約翰：	這家公司有些嚴重的問題。
Alice:	Yeah, their debt-to-equity ratio is sky high -- but worse still, their turnover is declining.	愛麗斯：	對啊，他們的資本負債率高得嚇人，不過更糟的是，他們的營業額正在下降中。
John:	And look at this! Not only is their turnover decreasing, but their profit margin has shrunk from eight percent to three percent!	約翰：	看看這個！不只營業額下降，他們的利潤百分比也從百分之八縮減到百分之三了。

turnover 營業額

turnover 在商業英語中，表「營業額；交易額」的意思。一般用法中，即是字面上「翻轉；倒轉」之意。

Our turnover is decreasing. Why aren't people buying our products?
我們的營業額下降了。為什麼大家不買我們的產品呢？

be able to make (something) 可以完成（某事）

be able to make (something) 這個常見說法是「可以做；完成某事」的意思，make 在這裡有「使成功；使成為」的意思。

If I don't get a raise, I won't be able to make my car payments.
如果我沒有加薪，我就沒有辦法付我車子的貸款。

wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole 連碰都不想碰

pole 是「竿子」， ten-foot pole 即是字面上的意思「十英呎長的竿子」，wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole（即使用十英呎長的竿子都不會碰某件事物），引申指絕不會考慮某事物或不敢做某事。

That car is so ugly I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole, much less buy it.
這車子醜得要命，我連碰都不想碰，更別說是買它了。
