    pledge 表示「發誓」或「嚴正的承諾」，在字意及用法上較 promise（承諾）正式。pledge 另有「抵押、典當」及「舉杯祝賀」之意。

    shed 下跌；脫落、脫離
    shed 有「失去」之意，常用於股市下跌或體重減輕，反義字為 gain（獲利；增加）；亦可作為名詞，如 blood shed（流血）。

    rocked by 因……受震撼

    fuel 激發；激起
    fuel 作名詞時指「燃料」，作動詞時表示「為……加燃料」，如：fuel a car up（把車子的油箱加滿），常引申為「激發、激起」之意；反義字為 stifle（抑制）。

    tout 大肆宣傳；招徠顧客
    tout 係為爭取顧客或他人的支持，而「大肆宣傳、讚揚（某產品、某事）」之意。

    thumbs-up 同意；贊同
    thumbs-up，字面意義為大拇指向上比，用來表示「同意、贊同或鼓勵」。相傳這種手勢源自於古羅馬競技場，場上的戰士 (gladiator) 比試完畢後，群眾會熱烈地用手勢表達他們對失敗者命運的建議，正豎拇指代表生，倒豎拇指代表死，故 thumbs-up 引申為「同意；贊同」；相反地，thumps-down 表示「不同意；不贊同」。
