    Germany Ready for World Cup

Fans of the beautiful game are gathering in Germany for the start of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
As the country braces for an invasion of football-mad followers of the world's most popular sport, businesses are lining up to cash in on World Cup fever.
The opening game between the hosts and Costa Rica kicks off Friday, June 9.
The Germans are hoping the month-long tournament -- a logistical nightmare of security, transit, and lodging for some one million fans -- will come off without a hitch.
Sponsors have lined up to sink nearly $1 billion into the event, with big name companies like Adidas and McDonalds getting in on the action.
Not to be left out, locals are also cashing in.
Everyone from tour guides to hotels and beer hall operators are hearing register bells as international football fans begin to arrive.
A seven-story brothel in Cologne got in the spirit by unfurling a banner from its roof which read "A Time to Make Girlfriends" -- a variation on the official FIFA World Cup slogan "A Time to Make Friends."
The building also displayed flags from all the competing countries.
Local Muslims were less than thrilled with the inclusion of the Saudi Arabian and Iranian flags on the brothel facade.
"Twenty masked men arrived armed with sticks and knives and threatened to bomb the place unless we removed the Saudi and Iranian flags," said brothel manager Armin Lobscheid.
"We felt it wise to concede."
