Marie Curie: Against All Odds (1)

Marie Curie was one of the greatest women scientists, but success was not easy.
When Curie went to college in Paris, she was very poor. She often had only bread and butter for dinner.
Curie lived alone in a sixth-floor apartment. There was no running water, so she had to carry water up five flights of stairs. During the winter, the water often froze before she got there. At night, she had to wear all her clothes to stay warm.
When she got married, Curie chose to wear a black dress because it was the most practical. Since it would not look dirty easily, she could later work in it.
