Science was a man's world then. People did not think women were smart enough to be real scientists. |

However, Curie became the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. She won it with her husband. Many people doubted her ability and said her husband did all the work. |

A few years later, her husband died in an accident. Curie had to raise her two daughters alone, but she continued her work. |

She won a second Nobel Prize in 1911. This time she won it by herself, and she proved women could be scientists. She was also successful as a mother: one of her daughters later won a Nobel Prize, too. |
