The Power of Typhoons (2) |

Typhoons only develop over very warm ocean water -- 26.5°C or warmer. Typhoons get their energy from the warm water. That energy becomes rain and strong winds. |
Typhoons can travel long distances, and when they reach land, they get weak and die. They don't have their energy source -- warm water -- anymore, so they stop like a car without gas. |
In this way, typhoons are a lot like us: they are born, they grow up, and then they die. They can be dangerous, too. Understanding them can help us prepare for the next typhoon that comes our way. |
