Have you ever looked out at an ocean from a beach? Did it look big to you? Altogether, oceans cover an area of 362 million square kilometers. That's over seventy percent of the earth, and ten thousand times bigger than all of Taiwan. |
The oceans are also very deep. The Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean is almost seven miles deep. In comparison, Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, is only five and a half miles high. All of Mount Everest could fit into the trench, with room to spare. |
