    gap 是「間隙；空檔」的意思；fill the gap 字面的意思是「填補空隙」，引申為「撐場
    面」。亦可說成 bridge the gap 。

  Our tale begins in Athens of old. It is midsummer, and weddings are the talk of the town. Hermia's father wants his daughter to marry Demetrius, while Hermia wishes to marry her love, Lysander. Her father gives her an ultimatum: she must marry his choice of suitor, become a nun, or be put to death. Before the wedding preparations are finished, she must choose her fate.  
  Hermia and Lysander's only choice is to elope, so the lovers hatch a plan. If they get married in a town outside of Athens, then they won't be bound by Athens's laws. Before they leave, Hermia tells her best friend, Helena, of her plan to escape the marriage to Demetrius. Helena had previously been seduced by Demetrius, and she is in love with him. Even though Demetrius wishes to marry Hermia, Helena wants to show her loyalty to him. She tells Demetrius about the lovers' plan in hopes of getting into his good graces.  
  Hermia and Lysander journey to the forest with Helena and Demetrius in hot pursuit, but trouble awaits them all. The forest is enchanted and home to the king and queen of the fairies and their mischievous sprites.  
     
  我們的故事始於古代雅典。仲夏時分，婚禮是城裡人們議論紛紛的話題。赫米雅的父親希望女兒嫁給狄米崔斯，但是赫米雅想嫁給自己心儀的雷山德。她父親下了最後通牒：她必須嫁給他選擇的對象，不然就得當修女或被處死。在婚禮的準備工作完成前，她必須選擇她的命運。  
     
  赫米雅和雷山德唯一的選擇是私奔，於是這對戀人暗中進行一項計畫。如果他們在雅典以外的城鎮結婚，那麼他們就不受雅典法律的約束。在他們離開前，赫米雅把這個逃避嫁給狄米崔斯的計畫告訴最要好的朋友海倫娜。先前海倫娜已經被狄米崔斯所吸引，而愛上了他。即使狄米崔斯想娶赫米雅，海倫娜還是想對他表現忠誠。她把這對戀人的計畫告訴狄米崔斯，希望換取他的好感。
