助動詞may 用於客氣請求對方允許去做某事，加上 please 讓語氣顯得更為客氣。

about time 用於強烈表示事情早該發生，說話者通常對於這個情況感到有點不悅。也可用 it's about time 之後接子句來指出這個情況。
A: Kathy and Peter have arrived.
凱西和彼得已經到了。
B: About time! They were supposed to be here an hour ago.
終於到了！他們應該一個小時前就要到了。

此外，it's about time 和 it's high time 之後會接帶有假設意味的子句（原本應該要發生但未發生），之後的子句用過去式表示（如上述句中的 you did it）。
