  美國是一個文化大熔爐的國家，有許多來自歐洲的移民，有時你可從對方的姓猜測他們的祖先來自哪個國家。
英國移民最常見的姓氏為 Smith、Jones、Brown、Williams 和 Wilson。而姓氏字尾為 -en 很可能來自挪威，-sson 的則可能來自瑞典或其他北歐國家。姓氏字尾為 -z 可能來自西班牙語系國家。字尾為 -ski或 -czyk 可能是波蘭人的後裔，而姓氏字尾為 -ov 的人很可能來自俄國。至於姓氏開頭為 Mc、Mac 或 O' 的祖先則可能來自愛爾蘭。

希望別人停止某種行為的時候，就可以使用這個口語。語氣中多會帶點不耐煩的口吻。 另外，come on 還有慫恿或催促別人去做某事的意思。
   
A: Are you going to remember to bring your wallet this time?
  這次你會記得帶你的皮夾嗎？
   
B: Oh, come on. I forgot it once, six months ago.
  又來了。我才忘了那麼一次，而且是六個月前的事了。
   
Come on. It'll be fun. All your friends will be there, too.
  一起來嘛，很好玩的。你所有的朋友都會在那裡。

Give me a break. 饒了我吧。
Enough already! 夠了喔！
Oh, brother. 天啊。

for Pete's sake 是較 for God's sake 婉轉的說法，對許多信仰虔誠的人來說，直呼上帝的名諱是不敬的行為，所以會用 for Pete's sake 或是 for heaven's sake 等來表達自己的不耐煩。

  字首 com- 表示「一起；完全」，有時還可作為強調用。之後接 b、m、p 時拼成 com-，另外除了 com- (2) 提到的變形外，其他音之前大多拼成 con-。

  把藍色的鞋擺在綠色的鞋旁邊，這樣我才能比較兩者。
   
  connect v. 　連接；連結
You need to connect the cables before you can turn on the computer.
  在開電腦之前你得先接上電線。
   
  converge v. 　會合；匯集；整合
Accidents can happen easily where two roads converge.
