這個用語主要用於原本並未特意想到的事情,但經由某個人或某件事提醒你的情況下才想起,之後會接所想到的事情。

apropos of 這個用法原本是借自法文 a propos de,相當於英文中的 to the purpose of。不過一開始這個用法並沒有加上介系詞 of,而且意思是「適合的」,到了十八世紀就已經加上了 of,並且表示「關於……」,與 by way of、concerning 意思相同。
