  用於所要陳述的事情讓你感到抱歉、難為情時，同時隱含有所要陳述的事情並不是你樂見的。
   
I hate to tell you that I shrunk your blue sweater.
  這件事很難開口，就是我把你的藍色毛衣弄縮水了。
   
I hate to tell you that we're not coming to the party.
  這件事很難啟齒，就是我們不會去參加派對。
   
I hate to tell you that we're all out of strawberry cheesecake at the moment.
  這件事很難開口，就是目前我們沒有草莓起司蛋糕。
   
I hate to tell you that you're going to have to stay in the hospital overnight for observation.
  這件事很難開口，就是你必須在醫院裡住一晚觀察。

  所陳述的事情可能引起對方不悅時，可用較委婉的方式起頭：
I'm sorry to tell you that your order hasn't been shipped yet.
  很抱歉告訴您，您的訂貨還沒運送。
   
I really feel bad about telling you that your loan application has been denied.
  很抱歉告訴您，您的貸款申請被拒絕了。

表示某人遭遇某事是其應得的報應，不必要替他擔心難過。
   
It serves you right to have to clean up the mess you made.
  你活該要清理這些你造成的髒亂。
   
A: I can't believe Georgia didn't invite me to her party.
  我不敢相信喬治亞沒邀請我參加她的派對。
   
B: It serves you right. You were never very nice to her.
  你活該，誰叫你從來沒給她好臉色看。

  克雷格對莎拉說謊，莎拉便甩掉他。他活該。
   
  ★你知道嗎？．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．
  you've made your bed, now lie in it 這句話源自於法國的諺語 comme on fait son lit, on se couche（as one makes one's bed, so one lies in it），意思就是自己承擔自己做的事，別人也幫不了你。
 

另外，you deserve it、you get what you deserve 及 you had it coming 這三句以正面角度來看則有鼓勵或嘉許對方「這是你應得的」之意。

  字首 un- 也可用來表示「反轉原先的動作使其相反；移除；免除；釋放某個情況」等意思，有時也可只作為強調使用，例如：unloose（鬆開；解開）中的 un- 就是作為強調用。

  undo　 v.　解開；消除

羅柏解開他夾克上的釦子因為他突然覺得熱。
   
  unfold　 v.　展開；顯露；透露
As Tim's history unfolded, people saw him in a new light.
  隨著提姆的過往逐漸展現，大家用不同的角度來看他。
   
  unlock　 v.　開鎖；開啟；揭露（祕密）
We tried one key after another, but none of them would unlock the door.
  我們試了一支又一支的鑰匙，但沒一支打得開這扇門。
   
  unpack　 v.　打開（包裹、行李）
Jessie still has not unpacked his bags from his trip.
 
傑西旅行回來後還沒打開過行李袋。
