  it 指的是 that 子句，用於詢問某事是怎麼做到的，若詢問的事情不容易做到或很了不起，用這句話亦可表達讚美。
   
How is it that you stay so slim?
  妳為什麼可以一直這麼瘦？
   
How is it that she can memorize all those people's names?
  她怎麼有辦法記住所有人的名字？
   
How is it that Paul can always find such great deals? I never can.
  為什麼保羅總是可以找到這麼划算的交易？我就沒辦法。
   
How is it that Tom always knows what to say at the right moment?
  為什麼湯姆總是知道什麼時候該說什麼話？

  it's nothing to write home about 這個說法起源於十九世紀末，那時候士兵被派駐的地方離自己的家鄉通常都很遠，而和家人聯繫唯一的方式就是信件往返。士兵們在信上寫的通常是一些比較值得分享的事，瑣碎的小事往往就會忽略不提。所以 it's nothing to write home about 指的就是那些雞毛蒜皮不值得在信上一提的小事。

  bat 本身是指「球棒；揮打」，bat 與 beat 同源，均有「打架；打擊；攻擊」的意思，例如 battle（戰役；戰爭）這個字就是由 bat 加上表「連續動件」的字尾 -le 而成。
