  ★這麼用．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．
  藉由說明某事的結果來強調事情演變的程度或數量，即中文「某事變得如此……以致於……」的意思。
   
I had my accident almost six months ago, but lately, the pain has become so bad that I can't bear it any longer.
  我差不多在六個月前出了意外，最近痛到讓我受不了了。
   
My knee has become so fragile that I can't walk on it.
  我的膝蓋變得很脆弱，所以我無法行走。
   
His migraines have become so terrible that he cannot work.
  他的偏頭痛變得很嚴重，以致於沒辦法工作。
   
With her new braces, eating foods like corn has become so challenging that she gave up and only drinks smoothies.
  她裝了新牙套，吃玉米之類的食物變得很困難，結果她就不吃這些東西，只喝水果冰沙。
   
  ★延伸應用．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．
   
The art exhibit has become so popular that it was on TV.
  這場藝術展變得很受歡迎所以上了電視。
   
This travel agency has become so expensive and unreliable that I think we should change to a new one.
  這家旅行社變得又貴又不可靠，我想我們應該換一家。

就醫時如果能清楚告訴醫生疼痛的形式，則有助於迅速做出正確的診斷。你可以用 It's a ________ pain/sensation. 來表示。
• aching pain 持續性酸痛
• gnawing pain 椎心痛
• dull pain 隱隱作痛
• stabbing pain 刺痛
• intense pain 激烈疼痛
• sharp pain 劇痛

不想解釋事情的來龍去脈，就可以用這句話來將重點帶出。
   
A: Why did you have to go to Korea?
  你為什麼得去韓國？
   
B: To make a long story short, it was a business trip.
  長話短說，是去出差的。
   
  ★你知道嗎？．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．
  「說來話長」的英文說法是 it's a long story，也可以說 there's so much to tell。另外，請人家不要天花亂墜、東扯西聊的時候，可以用 cut the comedy 來命令對方「別再亂來了」，若是在比較熟識的朋友之間，可以用 cut the crap 來表示「少廢話」，因為後者比較不雅，所以千萬要注意使用的場合喔！

  時間的關係，讓我這麼說好了。

  我不想談細節。我這麼說好了……

  -en（-n 為其變形）接在物質名詞之後作形容詞用，帶有「由……製成、組合而成」的意思。-en 也可用來表示「小」，如：kitten（小貓）；或少數的名詞複數，如：children、oxen（公牛），以及一些不規則動詞的過去分詞，如：taken、proven 等。

Mary slept on the hard wooden floor.
  瑪麗睡在硬梆梆的木頭地板上。
