表示身體疼痛除了 pain 之外，其他身體部位的不適有不同的說法，列舉如下：
•ache（持續輕微的疼痛）：head/stomach/back/tooth aches，或合併成一個字作名詞用，如：headache/stomachache/backache/toothache。
•sore（酸痛）：muscle/wrist is sore
•sting（刺痛）：eyes sting、skin stings
•throb（抽痛）：head throbs、muscles/fingers/legs throb
•itch（癢）：face/skin/nose/throat/leg itches

no joke 可因語氣的不同而有不同的解釋。說話者帶有疑問口吻時，則表示對對方的話產生質疑。若為肯定的語氣則表示「不是開玩笑的；是真的」。

  你想要玩跳傘？不是開玩笑的吧？
   
A: That was the craziest party I've ever been to.
  那是我去過最瘋狂的派對了。
   
B: No joke. I can't believe they actually had two live bands.
  不是開玩笑的。我不敢相信他們請來兩個樂團現場表演。

  另一個相似的口語 say it like you mean it 意思是要別人為說的話打包票，保證絕無半點虛假，也可簡略說成 mean it。

  拳擊手贏了比賽再度取得冠軍。
