  對某人所期望的事物提出具體的說明。
   
What I was hoping for was something with a positive feeling to it.
  我想要的是能夠傳達正面形象的東西。
   
What we were hoping for was something with a catchier tune.
  我們想要的是更朗朗上口的旋律。
   
What our client was hoping for was something with a larger living room.
  我們的客戶想要的是大一點的客廳。
   
What I was hoping for was something with a more romantic atmosphere.
  我想要的是更浪漫一點的氛圍。

  班想要的是比較寬鬆的剪裁。

現在企業有許多工作會選擇外包（outsource）給自由工作者（freelancer）或專業工作室（boutique house），有些也會透過一般人力仲介（general staffing agency）或創意專業仲介（boutique agency）來尋覓短期員工，其中創意專業仲介介紹的多半是設計師、作者或從事媒體相關工作的專業人才。

這是用來表達對所聽聞的事情感到懷疑或驚訝時常見的口語說法。亦可用於請人把話再表達一次。
   
A: I asked your sister out on a date.
  我約你妹出去了。
   
B: You what? You asked who out on a what?
  什麼？你約誰做了什麼？
   
A: I got a tattoo.
  我去刺青了。
   
B: You what? I don't believe it.
  什麼？我不相信。
   
  ★你還可以這麼說！．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．
What?
  什麼？
   
Say what?
  你說什麼？
   
Sorry?
  抱歉你說啥？
   
Come again?
  再說一次？
   
Run that one past me again.
  你再說一次。
   
A: I'm dropping out of college.
  我休學了。
   
B: I'm sorry, what? Run that one past me again.
  不好意思，什麼？你再說一次。

說這些話的時候，多數已經聽到對方所要說的話，但還是要求再重複一次以確定自己沒聽錯。在口語中也常用 huh 這個字，加上困惑的表情來表示不能理解所聽到的消息。

  join、junct 帶有「連結」的意思，join 在英文中亦指「連結；結合；加入」，而 joint 作名詞用表示「接合點；關節」，形容詞則表示「聯合的；共同的」。另外，文法上的「連接詞」就稱為 conjunction。

（過去分詞 conjoined 可作形容詞用，表示「結合的；連接的」）
The conjoined twins had a surgery to separate them.
 
那對連體嬰接受手術將彼此分開。
   
  disjointed　 adj.　脫臼的；脫節的；（思緒、文體）不連貫的
My childhood memories are mostly disjointed images of the beach and Grandma's house.
  我的童年記憶多半是海邊與奶奶家的片段影像。
   
  injunction　 n.　強制令；禁制令；命令
The judge issued an injunction, making the company pay its employees more money.
  法官發出強制令要求該公司給付員工更多薪資。
   
  junction　 n.　交會處；交叉路口；接頭
The fish market is near the junction of the two rivers.
  那個漁市在兩條河交會處附近。
