Situation:Helen is talking to Betty, the sales representative, about rules of entertainment and business.
情境:海倫正和業務代表貝蒂談到商場應酬的規矩。
Helen:There are some important rules about mixing entertainment and business.
海倫:關於商場上的應酬有些重要的規矩。
Betty:What do you mean?
貝蒂:妳的意思是?
Helen:Entertainment is often an essential part of doing business.
海倫:應酬經常是做生意中重要的一環。
Betty:That's for sure!
貝蒂:那是當然的囉!
Helen:But that entertainment must be appropriate.
海倫:但是應酬一定要拿捏適當。
Betty:You mean, respectable activities in respectable establishments?
貝蒂:妳是指,在正當的場所從事正當的活動嗎?
Helen:Exactly. Remember, you are a representative of your company.
海倫:一點也沒錯。要記住,妳是公司的代表。
Betty:That's true.
貝蒂:我知道。
Betty:But still, wining and dining is often a necessary part of making a deal.
貝蒂:但是要把生意談成,喝酒和吃飯常常是不可缺少的一部份。
Helen:It is, but it mustn't be overdone.
海倫:的確是,但絕對不能過了頭。
Helen:The days of the four-martini lunch are long gone.
海倫:四杯馬丁尼午餐的時代老早就過去了。
Betty:You know, some people still say that a few drinks makes the ink flow faster on the contracts.
貝蒂:可妳也知道,還是有些人說:「黃湯下肚,合同到手」。
Helen:If we need to get people drunk to make a deal, it's a deal we don't need.
海倫:如果我們要把別人灌醉才能談成生意,那這筆生意我們不要也罷。
Betty:You're right, there.
貝蒂:妳這話說得對。
